The Anderson Union High School District v. Shasta Secondary Home School Decision

Prior to the Anderson Union High School District v. Shasta Secondary Home School (November 2016 decision) case, only classroom based campuses were subject to the single site outside of the district boundaries limitation.  Long Valley Charter School’s Doyle location was considered the single site outside of the authorizing district’s boundaries due to the school being unable to locate a facility within the Ravendale-Termo Elementary School District.

The DOYLE CAMPUS is not a target in this ruling and will continue to operate as the single site outside of Ravendale-Termo Elementary School District.

Since the court decision, the Susanville Resource Center represents a second site outside of the district, which made this location suddenly out of compliance with Education Code. 47605.1(d).  This is the reason our governing board applied for a waiver and petitioned for a new charter school to make sure there was a compliant solution. (See more details below).

The Portola Resource Center is out of Lassen County and therefore is not subject to the issue targeted in the court decision.

Long Valley Charter School Susanville authorized by Ravendale-Termo Elementary School District will open 7/1/17 with a TK-12 program.  It has received a charter number, which triggers the school’s ability to operate.

The existing Long Valley Charter School was granted a waiver on 5/11/2017 to operate the Susanville Resource Center through 6/30/2018.  However, since the new charter is already approved and set to open on 7/1/17, the governing board has decided to limit enrollment in the current LVCS school to those high school students requiring accreditation (for example, students planning to attend a 4-year university).  All other students will be offered enrollment in the new Long Valley Charter School Susanville program.
